Libis rushes for six touchdowns as St. Mary improves to 2-2

St. Mary senior running back Connor Libis had a big night Friday as the Cardinals defeated Alcester-Hudson 52-38. Libis rushed for six touchdowns and scored six two-point conversions. He finished with 317 yards rushing on 31 carries. Ty Brown also carried it seven times for 54 yards, and Noah Olund rushed for 37 yards and a score.

The win improves St. Mary to 2-2 on the season. The Cardinals fell out of the Top 5 Class 9B media poll after a 54-0 loss to De Smet last week. Alcester-Hudson was 3-0 on the season and ranked No. 4 in the most recent poll. Friday's 14-point win over the Cubs could help St. Mary sneak back into the Top 5 when the next poll comes out this week.

Quarriers win Dakota Valley cheer Invitational

Dell Rapids won the six-team Dakota Valley competitive cheer Invitational on Sept. 5. The Quarriers scored 213.5 points, 22.5 points ahead of second place Dakota Valley. Other teams competing included Parkston, Bon Homme, Wagner and Winner.

At the Dell Rapids Invitational on Sept. 8, the Quarriers finished third behind Sioux Valley and Dakota Valley. Other teams competing included Platte-Geddes/AC-DC, Dell Rapids St. Mary and Arlington-Lake Preston.

St. Mary results from the De Smet Invitational

The Dell Rapids boys finished third at the De Smet cross country Invitational on Sept. 10. Clark-Willow Lake won the boys event with Estelline-Hendricks finishing second. The Cardinals' Jacob Vogel was second overall. Other St. Mary runners competed included: Seth Roemen  (15th), Thomas Eining  (16th), Noah Reiff (27th) and Gave Nelson (30th).

The St. Mary girls team finished 13th. Cardinals competing included: Lucy Vargas (26th), Addy Gilbert (36th), Sydney Klein (45th) and Sierra Klein (53rd).

Dells vs. Baltic volleyball set for Sept. 21

Dell Rapids and Baltic will play on Monday, Sept 21 in Dell Rapids. 

Baltic improved to 3-4 on the season after a 25-19, 25-21, 25-18 victory over Sioux Valley on Sept. 12. Elyssa Clark had 12 kills and nine digs to lead Baltic in the win. Sami Polzin added six kills and 11 digs, Kylie Schneider had six kills and eight digs, and Berklee Erickson added 14 digs.

The Quarriers opened the season with four straight losses including a 19-25, 20-25, 25-17, 17-25 loss against Tea Area on Sept, 10. Kylee Fiddelke had 10 kills and 12 digs to lead the Quarriers. Sophi Randall added 23 assists and Sam Price had 22 digs.
